Check this ship out!

Last week was Fleet Week in Fort Lauderdale, and that means we got to tour the USS New York! It was pretty cool to go aboard a working Navy ship and learn about what they carry and what they do. In the photo, you can see in the photo a ginormous helicopter on deck. It was even more impressive up close. Inside, there were all kinds of vehicles and drones that the Navy transports to support efforts on the ground, wherever they may be and whatever they may be doing.

Unfortunately, the tour didn’t include the crew quarters, the mess hall, the gym, and the galley, which are some of my favorite things to see on ships. I want to know how they live while aboard!

What we did see was super cool, but it was a far cry from a luxury ocean liner… There’s still time to spend a week with your writing — and me — on the Queen Mary 2. You won’t be roused by Reveille at sunrise on this cruise writing retreat, I promise. And the chow will be better too.
