As it says on the tin, none of the essays in the book are explicitly about writing, but, they are all about writing. The essays are about skateboarding and delivering mail and dressage and knitting and shepherd’s pie and record collecting and a dozen more quotidian hobbies that exemplify what it means to do and to be. (And the book is not only for writing a novel — perhaps it should have said nonfiction-inclusive “book”!)

As the saying goes,
